How To Protect Your Home From Moisture

Moisture or water of any kind can cause a lot of damage to your home.  When we look at the humidity in your home, we are looking at the heat and water vapor that is created.  If we allow water to reside in our homes that isn’t regulated, then we can experience mold, bacteria and other components that could damage our homes as well as make us sick or worse.

Allow airflow

The first thing that you want to do is allow air flow into our homes.  This means that we will open a window, a few doors and allow the air from outside to come into our homes and freshen things up a bit.  The problem that most of us have is that if we allow our homes to become stuffy or limit the air flow, moisture could build up as a result.

Look for leaks

Water can be a very dangerous factor in our homes.  IF we allow water to stand on floors, in our walls and if we don’t tend to pipes and potential problems, they could easily get away from us causing major issues down the line.

Use a dehumidifier

To help remove humidity from the air we can use a dehumidifier.  A dehumidifier will suck in the moisture from the air and deposit it into a receptacle.  We will then empty that receptacle of water once it reaches its limit.

Do general inspections of your home

There is nothing worse than coming across a problem that could have been avoided.  This is why you want to take some time and do a general inspection of your home from time to time.  Make sure that you don’t have issues with windows or doors.  You want to make sure that nothing is broken or just needs to be repaired or replaced.

To keep your home safe you need to care for it.  Failure to do so can cause a lot of problems down the road.
